French Music

French is the language of love, art, culture, and individuality. It is lyrical and flowing. Music is one way to show off the beauty of the this language. There are so many classic French artists who created the classic "Paris" sound like Jacques Brel and Édith Piaf. It's necessary that we remember these legends, but at the same time, we need those clubbing tunes for the night outs. We have Stromae, Black M, and Maître Gims so share a few. "Est-ce que tu m'aimes" is one of the most famous in Europe this year. 

Édith Piaf was born on December 19th, 1915, and lived tell October 10, 1963. She is most well known for the beautiful "La Vie en Rose". She is the Judy Garland of France, and has become France's "chanteuse". 

"La Vie en Rose" has been translated into many languages including English. Here is my favorite rendition, as well as the beauty herself.  You fall in love with the Parisian way of life with this song, enjoy :) 

Jacques Brel was born in Belgium on April 8, 1929, and lived up until October 9th, 1978. He well known for his passion and sound. He sings with such love and drive. He is one of my favorite classic French artists to this day. Today, Jacques is considered the master of the modern chanson (song). 

"Ne me quitte pas" 

In modern French music, the Belgium Stromae is king in Europe. His music is pop-electro, intertwing social issues and metaphors. It is hard to comprehend his lyrics because of his use of his french idiomatic expressions. Here is a song talking about his dad who was killed in the Rwandan Genocide. 

French rap has become a main stream theme in French music. When I think of French rap, I think of Maître Gims and Black M. They are both French, and both have music with catchy beats, and extremely fast French. I dare you to pick out a few words.
